Althorp Literary Festival

The Althorp Literary Festival 2018 is being held in partnership with Clarendon Fine Art and The Week, with further support from Theodore Alexander, Brights of Nettlebed, Waterstones, and The Hawthorns Northampton.
Scheduled to take place from the 5th-7th October, the Althorp Literary Festival is set to host over 30 bestselling authors, writers, entrepreneurs and thought-leaders who are sure to provoke debate, laughter and enthusiasm. These include chef, writer and The Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith; historians Dan Snow, Dan Jones
and Helen Rappaport; author of the hugely successful Sharpe novels, Bernard Cornwell; Professor of Global History at Oxford University Peter Frankopan; politicians and authors Paddy Ashdown and Alan Johnson; eroticism and erotic literature writer Rowan Pelling; and acclaimed mountaineer Sir Chris Bonington.
Highlights include the highs and lows of writing historical hits from the nation's favourite TV writer Julian Fellowes; a premiering event with The Week featuring founders David Weeks and Jon Connell, hosting a live topical debate with a panel of authors; singer-songwriter Julia Gray discussing her new thriller, Little Liar, alongside an acoustic performance; and award-winning author Miranda Seymour discussing what it was like to be the wife or daughter of the brilliant but complex Lord Byron. The Festival also includes the exclusive chance to see acclaimed artist and Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year Christian Hook’s newest exhibit, being proudly displayed for the very first time.
The Festival plays host to pop-up retail outlets, live performances, and a variety of food and drink vendors offering fine wines, champagne, curated gin, coffee and delicious street food. Visitors can enjoy falconry displays, live poetry readings and more as they take in the scenery of Althorp’s quintessentially English house and gardens.
A new exhibition is also available to view: The Spencers: The History of an English Family. This beautifully thought out, brand new exhibition charts the story of the Spencer family from Medieval sheep-farmers, through the dynasty of politicians and strong female figures, to the present day. The vast majority of the items on show here are not usually on public view – from great treasures through to intimate family pieces.
