Have A Go Restoration Experience

25 JAN
Kelmarsh Hall is undergoing its largest ever restoration project. The project is due to open in summer 2017 however we are excited to offer visitors the chance to go behind the scenes while the work is in progress to see restoration in action!

Our Have a Go Restoration Experience is free but places are limited so book now to avoid disappointment! To book your ticket, click here.

With a £1.3 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund we have been able to begin restoring areas of the Hall which were at risk. ‘Below stairs’ areas formerly used by those who worked in the Hall will be preserved and opened for visitors to see, including a butler’s pantry, bake house and footman’s room in the basement of the main house and a wash room and ironing rooms in a separate laundry block.

By joining our Have a Go Restoration Experience you will have the chance to see the important work which is going on to preserve the 'below stairs' areas. You will experience the restoration techniques being used such as pointing, lime washing and joinery under the guidance of the experts working on this unique project.

Due to the nature of the site as an active construction zone visitors are asked to bring warm clothing and to wear sturdy footwear such as walking boots or wellies. Hard hats and Hi-Vis jackets will be provided. Unfortunately due to steps and uneven ground the site is not accessible for wheelchairs. Minimum age 18. Tickets must be pre-booked.

Provisional itinerary (exact timings may be subject to change)

1:00pm: arrival introduction and site induction.

1:15pm – 3:15pm: Have a Go Experience to include lime pointing, lime washing and joinery.

3:15pm - conclusion of experience refreshments and evaluation.

Should you have any queries about the tours, please do not hesitate to contact us on [email protected] or by calling 01604 686 543.

This is a free event however we are still fundraising for this important project so all donations are gratefully received.
