19th October 2017

Shhhhhh, I'm not usually a fan of shopping centres, but when they're in the heart of the beautiful Nene Valley surrounded by lakes - where big brand fashion meets lakeside restaurants and cafes - and I can take Muddy Paws...well then, I'm smitten!

I’m not the world’s biggest shopper, a strange admission from a lifestyle journalist, it’s just the way it’s been. But as I’ve got older, what I’ve realised that it actually is I don’t like, is busy Saturday shopping, car park jams, irate humans and shopping centres with no daylight. Step forward Rushden Lakes, my new fashion haven.

With a large House of Fraser and M&S, alongside fashion favourites such as H&M, River Island, Next, and Primark, it ticks most of my go-to stores (no Top Shop, but hey you can’t have everything)!

I bagged this Linea coat in House of Fraser, and get complimented on it everywhere I go. Mr Muddy didn’t seem as enamoured about the selection process until he realised he could go and have a spot of lunch at Eden in House of Fraser.

Other big name fashion brands you’ll find include Jigsaw, Hobbs, New Look and Joules, so from a price point of view, it’s good for the teens up to the older, bigger spenders. I have a 16 year old and a 12 year old (boy and girl respectively). Both say Rushden Lakes has great shops that importantly for them (the lazy bones), are all really close.

House of Fraser has the nicest Men’s section EVER, according to my 16 year old. They also both said it’s a great destination to go with your mates because you can go for the whole afternoon and when the food places are open, the entire day!

I love a bit of New Look, but I often get put off with the jumble sale like displays. This store was large, airy and really tidy, and I found at least 10 things i liked almost immediately. The classic leather jacket was a steal in New Look, and I almost bought my ninth pleated skirt (yup you read that right), in Next. I resisted but did manage to get the Mini Mudlet’s school uniform (she’s a curvy age 12, so we went to the women’s section and got her sorted with trousers, skirt and shoes, boom)!

I’ll be doing a few more round ups on the Lakes Shopping Centre (fun kid’s stuff to do at half term, dog walking, Xmas shopping, and just wait until all the eateries are open), so keep your eyes peeled! In the unlikely event you haven’t been yet, and fancy a trip, it’s just off the A45, and about a 25 minute walk from Rushden town centre (but if you walk, I don’t know how you’re gonna get your bags back home such is the superb selection of shops. Good luck ; )

Oh, and did I mention it’s open until 8pm every evening? It does get very busy at peak times – but there is plenty of free car parking in the customer car park, including dedicated parent and child bays, spaces for disabled drivers, and four dedicated parking bays for electric car charging. There is also ample cycle parking on site with cycle rack facilities for you to use for free. Good luck to all cyclist carrying their booty home post shopping trip.
