A Right Royal Bank Holiday at Holdenby

28 - 29 AUG

Our Jubilee opening was so popular and we have received so many requests from visitors for another chance to see our Royal Holdenby exhibition that we have decided to give everyone a last chance to enjoy it this season!

The Special exhibition “Elizabeth I to Elizabeth II, 10 monarchs & Holdenby was warmly received:

“The display was outstanding”

Many Thanks, for sharing your beautiful home and fascinating display of royal exhibits”

“Very Exquisite”

Here is our weekend plan:

Sunday 28th August –

Gardens & Falconry open: The gardens that were built to entertain  Queen Elizabeth 1 and then became a Palace to 3 Kings, including Charles I will be open.  Other than the beautiful borders, you will be able to see plans of the original layout, walk where Charles I walked when he was a prisoner here and even see the tree planted by George V, another fascinating aspect of Holdenby’s royal connections you will be able to experience is the royal art of Falconry.  Admire Icarus Falconry’s magnificent collection of Eagles, Falcons, Hawks, Owls and Vultures and watch flying displays on the lawns where Charles I played this historic sport, or you may enjoy meeting Norma the Hedgehog or Roxy the fox and other members of our growing English Wildlife wing.

Monday 29th August -

House & Royal Holdenby Exhibition open:  As well as the Gardens & Falconry, the House and Exhibition will be open.  The exhibition in the ballroom _ “ Elizabeth 1 to Elizabeth 11 – Ten Monarchs & Holdenby “ contains fascinating royal memorabilia, from a 1583 Elizabethan bible to an original book written by Charles I when he was imprisoned at Holdenby, a thank you letter from Edward V11 , invitations to 3 coronations and Jubilee china & glass from 6 reigns, and much more. A Royal quiz relating to items in the exhibition and the other beautiful staterooms in the house will add to the interest for visitors.

This will be the last chance to see the inside of the House and the exhibition this year.

Connies Tea Parlour will be serving delicious teas and our shop will be selling

a range of boutique gifts from local gift company, Seaton Gifts.

Where better than Holdenby, then, to enjoy some right royal times this Bank Holiday!
