2 - 3 JUN

There’s no better place to start the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations than Holdenby.

The original Palace of Holdenby was built as a palace to entertain the Queen’s illustrious predecessor, Elizabeth I. Since then, it belonged to her successors, James I, Charles I and Queen Henrietta Maria and briefly Charles II.

In fact, over the years, 10 monarchs have had some sort of connection with Holdenby and they will be at the centre of our “Right Royal Celebration! “On June 2nd & 3rd.

For a start, the House will be open with a special exhibition “Elizabeth I to Elizabeth II. 10 Monarchs & Holdenby “. Visitors will be able to see, amongst other things, the 420 year old deed that made Holdenby over to the Royal Family, a book that Charles I wrote at Holdenby, a tree that George VI planted, and fascinating Jubilee memorabilia from every reign from Queen Victoria to the present Queen.

To make the day even more memorable for families, there will be a Royal Activity Pack and Quiz, with prizes for correct answers and a Jubilee Crown to the overall winner on each day.

As James I would have practised Falconry at Holdenby, visitors will be also able to enjoy spectacular displays and talks about this Sport of Kings by our resident Icarus Falconry.

There will be Cakes, Teas & Refreshments from Connie’s Tea Parlour as well as Crepes by The Courtyard Creperie and Hot Refreshments from Sammies…...and you may even spot the odd monarch walking around the wonderful Grade I Gardens!

Finally, visit our Stableyard Shop where you will find a range of boutique gifts from local gift company, Seaton Gifts. There will be something for everyone including gifts inspired by Holdenby.

All in all, June 2nd & 3rd will be very special days. In a very special place. To celebrate a very special Queen.
