Price included in general admission to explore the Abbey before or after your tour (£8 adults, under 18s go free)

Thanks to a team of dedicated volunteers and their extensive research during the Covid-19 lockdowns of 2020/21, we can now share the forgotten stories of some of the notable women that have been central to the history of the Abbey and estate. Join one of these exclusive guided tours of the Abbey to uncover the tales of these women.

Learn of the last Abbess of St. Mary de la Pré, Clemencia Stock, who stood her ground when dealing with Henry VIII. Give thanks to Joan Wake, who was single-handedly responsible for saving the Abbey from demolition in the 1950s. Plus, hear about not only the wealthy female inhabitants of the Abbey through time, but also what we know of the female housekeepers and servants who played an integral role in the Abbey’s history.
