Lamport Lecture Series: Bruce Bailey

7 AUG
Friday 7th August

Bruce Bailey – John Webb and his work at Lamport and Drayton in the 1650s

John Webb is best known as assistant to the more famous Inigo Jones. This lecture will claim he is much more than this. His work at Lamport and Drayton in the 1650s establishes him as a major figure in architecture during the Commonwealth period. But he was also the first architect in England to add a portico on any country house and his work at Greenwich marks him as the first English architect to work in the full Baroque manner.
