Lamport Collection Close Up

Dr Conny Bailey – ‘Not Without my Marratta…’ An Introduction to Portraiture at Lamport Hall
6.30pm refreshments, 7pm start

While in Rome, Thomas Isham, 3rd Baronet, deployed the services of the city’s leading portrait painter, Carlo Marratta, to produce a commemorative portrait of the educated young baronet-about-town. Marratta had one of the most desirable portrait studios in Rome, and there is barely an English country house that does not count at least one of his works amongst their collections. Join us for this exploration of the history of portraiture linked together by the portraits that have captured generations of Ishams. The lecture will involve a walking tour to view selected portraits in the Hall.
