Step back in time to 1640s Northampton and experience the anarchy of the Civil War. This exciting family-friendly weekend of displays, demonstrations and hands-on history will have something to entertain all ages as the historic Abbey and grounds come alive with Northampton’s turbulent past.

It’s the dawn of war and the Parliamentarians have assembled at Delapré Abbey. Witness a full historic drill display on the South Lawn complete with cavalry and cannons. Learn all about military tactics of the 17th century and see what civilian life was like through interactive living history encampments. Meet surgeons, cooks, gravediggers, midwives, gardeners and more. Discover how people would cook, create and cut off limbs... definitely not one for the faint hearted!

There will also be stalls offering historic shopping including mead so that you can fully immerse yourself in 17th century life.

Leading the fun is renowned re-enactment group, The Devereux’s Regiment, which has a passion for bringing the past to the present. The regiment was established in the early 1970s and has members from all over the UK helping to bring historic buildings to life.

“We had a fantastic day here on Saturday! I attended with four of my children aged 5 - 17 and they all equally enjoyed it… it was extremely educational… it really was like stepping back in time.” Visitor to our History Alive event in 2019.
