Women's Tour, 7 June, 2017

7 JUN

The District is expected to buzz with excitement this summer as Daventry hosts the Grand Depart of the Women’s Tour.

Elite cyclists and their support teams will descend on the town for the start of the first stage of Britain's leading professional women's cycle race, on the morning of Wednesday, 7 June.

The prestigious Grand Depart traditionally attracts thousands of spectators, offering businesses, residents and community groups throughout the District an opportunity to benefit.

This will be the fourth time Northamptonshire has hosted a stage of the Women’s Tour, a five-stage event which attracts some of the best female cyclists in the world.

Last year’s race saw thousands of people across Daventry District gather to cheer the riders on, with commentators on ITV4’s highlights package praising the fantastic level of support shown.

Hosting the Grand Depart is a chance for Daventry District to further capitalise on that excitement, not only boosting businesses but inspiring people in our district to take up sport and exercise.

Daventry District Council is working with its partners including Northamptonshire County Council, Everyone Active and event organisers Sweetspot on preparations for the event.
