World War Two – The People’s War

7 SEP - 7 DEC
New exhibition at Daventry Museum to commemorate 80 years since the start of World War Two.

World War Two – The People’s War portrays the effect of the war on the local community through exhibits and the memories of Daventry’s residents.

Exhibits include articles from the Home Front such as a Women’s Land Army uniform and a Northamptonshire Fire Service uniform. There are also items representing those on the frontline, including a display of World War Two Campaign medals, awarded to local Daventry soldiers.

Another exhibition highlight is a doll’s house sized model of an Anderson shelter, opening up to reveal the living quarters for people sheltering from air raids.

An immersive exhibition area in the museum enables visitors to imagine what it would have been like from a child’s perspective during the war and being evacuated to safer areas.

On the museum’s Saturday open days visitors can enjoy reminiscing to wartime songs and view special exhibits including a display representing the 31 soldiers named on the Daventry War Memorial who gave their lives during the Second World War.

Museum Opening Times: Tuesday to Friday from 9.30am to 1.30pm and the first Saturday in the month from 10am to 4pm.
