12th March 2019

It wasn’t until I got a dog in 2015 that I realised just how much planning is required for a pup friendly day out. Popping to the pub for a quick drink or a bite to eat now requires a few phone calls to establish if Muddy Paws is welcome. If you’ve got a pooch, or just fancy a nice sit in a pub garden, Muddy intern Maddy Morgan has rounded up five lovely dog- friendly pubs in the county to help you enjoy the guilt free pint you’ve been after! If you have any other suggestions or faves, feel free to pop them in the comments box for all our dog friendly readers to note down and hopefully enjoy.

The Wheatsheaf Pub & Dining Room, Dallington Village

This is a truly gorgeous country pub only a five-minute walk from the local park! Dogs are welcome throughout the pub, with the only exception being the dining room. This pub has a beautiful garden and a large bar area where you can sit back and relax, with water bowls and doggie treats always on hand! The pub has also been credited with extremely good quality, local food with much of it being traced back to their extensive allotment! This seems like the perfect place to take your pooch for a fantastic day out!

The Narrow Boat, Weedon

The Narrow Boat is a beautiful canal side pub located in Weedon that goes out of its way to provide guests with a great view and fantastic food. With an award nominated chef and locally sourced food the Narrow Boat is a superb place to take your pupster for a wonderful time. Dogs are welcome in the bar, the gardens and the decking so you can enjoy an incredible meal with your bezzie (hairy) friend by your side!

The Wharf Inn, Welford

Set next to a lovely canal here we have yet another beautiful pub that’s more than happy to welcome you and your four legged friend. Dogs are welcome in the bar and garden where you can enjoy great food and drink. They also provide walks from one to eight miles that you and your pet can embark upon, ending up back at the pub for a cold drink to cool down. Not to be missed this dog friendly pub is just the thing to help you enjoy your days off with your canine in tow!

The Admiral Nelson, Braunston

This is a family run pub that prides itself on being a welcoming environment for all guests and their dogs. With experienced chefs The Admiral Nelson pub provides visitors with a brilliant dining experience all the while being able to enjoy it with the company of their beloved pooch. Another pub set by a beautiful canal, it lets you take pleasure in a fantastic view after a long day walking with your dog!

The Red Lion, Crick

The Red Lion is a traditional 17th century pub with outdoor seating area and beer garden. Welcoming you and your pup the Red Lion serves good quality food and a selection of real ales. The best part about this pub are the events that are held all year round, from quiz nights to the first Sunday of every month being labelled ‘Pie Night’. The Red Lion is a lovely relaxed place for you and your dog to enjoy an afternoon and definitely worth giving it a go!
