The Butchers Arms, Greens Norton The Butchers Arms, Greens Norton

Silverstone local Bethan Fanthorpe taps into Muddy readers' favourite cosy pubs in the locale! A glass of wine by an open fire is sure to get rid of those winter blues and keep you warm until spring

February is such a funny old month. Dark and cold, the festive fun of December is but a distant memory while we wait for the weather to get better and for spring to come bouncing in like an over-excited lamb. The Danish concept of hygge, a word which has become part of our vocabulary in recent years, seems to sum up what we’re really in need of at this time of the year. It describes a feeling of warmth, of coziness, of enjoying good company and something nice to eat and drink. There might be an open fire, candlelight, soft music, cushions and blankets. Serious February goals. But where can we find the elusive hygge? To me, it seems synonymous with a visit to one of the lovely pubs that we are so fortunate to have here in South Northants. Get yourself a drink, settle in for a natter with your loved ones or have a crack at the crossword while the weather does its worst outside. Here are 8 of the cosiest, most characterful pubs in our locality to get you started. These have all been recommended to Muddy by our readers so let’s share the knowledge and hygge the heck out of February.

The Crown, Weston

A family-run gem of a pub that has been recommended to Muddy a number of times. The owners of The Crown place great emphasis on the quality of the food that is served in the chic environs of the bar. The focus at the Crown is on handmade food, fresh, and keeping it real. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and with a wide range of wines, cask ales, premium beers and gins, it would be easy to while away an afternoon here.

The Plough embodies cosiness. A sweeping bar, a number of different areas to gather in, candles, wood and subtle personal touches all make this pub stand out. The food and drinks all earn rave reviews from Muddy’s readers.
