‘HAVING A GOOD TIME’ AT ASHBY MANOR HOUSE, RAISING FUNDS FOR NEW MAGGIE’S CANCER CENTRE. May 18, 7pm.

Have a good time with the Fingask Follie’s at Ashby Manor House on May 18th, and help raise vital funds for Northampton’s new Maggie's Centre.

For 25 years, the Fingask Follies have entertained with their politically and socially incorrect entertainments. Not elite, or elitist, just live entertainment not approved of by grant givers.

‘You will leave the Follies humming an old tune, and thinking a new thought’. This is a musical entertainment with 5 professional singers and a pianist. They borrow hugely from 20th and 21st c musicals, while a decent proportion of material is original, commissioned or volunteered by professionals or enthusiasts.

The mantra of the organisers is ’All entertainment lasts too long’ who hope guests leave the Follies thinking’ We would have like a little more of that’.

Ticket includes champagne on arrival in the Statue garden and dinner amongst Ashby seasonal tulips with wine.

Register for tickets by contacting Nova Guest directly on [email protected] or via Eventbrite here:

ROCKINGHAM INTERNATIONAL HORSE TRIALS. May 19-21.

Some of the world’s top event riders will be making their way to Northamptonshire this month to compete on the Rockingham estate’s ancient parkland. Alongside the international classes, there will be plenty of highlights to look forward to over the three days of competition – such as Arena Eventing, an Intermediate Masters and the prestigious Loomes Championship.

The horse trials is a fantastic opportunity for history lovers to explore the castle’s living past. Clues to the castle’s heritage can be found scattered all around the Great Park, with the cross country courses weaving their way around ancient remains such as the ridge and furrow from a vineyard planted by Henry I in 1100 and the foundations of the old hunting lodge where Henry VII stayed in the 16th century.

The castle estate also affords stunning views making it the ideal spot to sit back with family and friends and enjoy watching world-class sport. A picnic is the perfect accompaniment for a day at the horse trials and those seeking a bit of inspiration need look no further than the hugely popular artisan food fayre – packed full of Northamptonshire produce and returning better than ever for 2023.

JAZZ AT KETTERING PARK HOTEL. May 19, 7PM

XYLOPHOBIA: FERMYNWOODS

The Fermynwoods team has developed a new international exhibition of digitally based work that takes its name from the fear of wooden objects, forests, or wooded areas.

Responding to the increased needs and fears of outdoor activities in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the featured work presents explorative, experimental and conceptual spaces at this intersection, whilst inquisitive and mindful of the environmental impact of creating and presenting artworks using digital technology.

Imagined and digitised forests, physical wooden objects and speculative graphics processing units, forest inspired audio mixes and digitally fermented film-based work. Visitors are invited to engage with the works and consider their own relationship with the environment, both physically and virtually.

Featuring work by artists Ama Dogbe and David John Scarborough, Spencer Graham, Zhengyang and Zhengzhou Huang, Felix Loftus and Greg Orrom Swan.

Artists range from as far afield as Los Angeles, to Kettering.
