Although it's located close to Northampton town centre, at Abington Park, you’ll find 117 acres of green space. Popular with walkers and families, the Park offers a unique combination of things to do, see and explore. Here are some visitor highlights: Play areasThe play area is suitable for all ages, with plenty of equipment for both toddlers and school-aged children. Close to the main area, there is also an assault course for older children. Café When it’s time for a break, visit the Park café. Here you'll find plenty of food, drinks, snacks and meals. Currently, opening times are from 9 am - 5 pm Monday to Sunday. Fitness trails Fitness and fresh air - all at once. You’ll find a selection of gym-style equipment, including – Bicep machines, cross trainers and hip twisters. In total, the trail has 8 pieces of fitness equipment. Ornamental gardensThe park is home to over 350 different species of trees, making it England’s second-largest collection. Kew Gardens is the only place to have more. Lakes Abington park has 3 lakes, a model boating lake and 2 larger lakes, which are abundant with ducks, swans and other wildlife. Aviary Originally constructed in 1912, the ornamental aviaries are still home to many exotic birds. Take a stroll through the enclosures and say hello to the resident peacock ‘Lord Sparkles’. The bandstandIn the summer months soak up the sounds of live music and events held at the Victorian bandstand.
Abington Park Museum
Abington Park Museum is a beautiful Grade I listed building located within the Park. Collections include military and the Northamptonshire Regiment, social history, natural science, Egyptology and costume. A full programme of events runs throughout the year. Please visit the Events Section for more details. Historical Abington ParkFor history lovers, there is plenty to explore at Abington Park. Here are some historical highlights: Church of St Peter and St Paul The Church is the resting place of William Shakespeare's granddaughter Elizabeth Bernard, buried there. The history of the church dates back to the 13th century. It was constructed as a place of worship for those living at of the manor house, the estate workers and their families. Medieval villageThe former village lies in Abington Park and is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. It was located around the now isolated parish church. The Hunting GateOn the north side of the Park, two tall structure stand upon the grass. Originally, they were joined in an arch and were known as ‘The Hunting Gate'. On the road close by, there is a dip in the grass which marks the old boundary of the park.
